Finger Reconstruction with Osseointegration System
Sohn You-Ree

Abstract
Autologous free toe transfer is excellent and preferred method of the functional reconstruction of the amputated digits. But this method has many drawbacks such as poor esthetic result, great donor site morbidity, long operation and hospitalization period and high cost. So we need new treatment modality to solve these problems.

We reconstructed amputated fourth & fifth fingers of 26 year-old male patient with the osseointegrated prostheses. We placed the titanium fixture(Brenmark co.) into the stump bone and 5 months later, connected the percutaneous abutment to the fixture head. The silicone finger prosthesis that was produced by specialized prosthodontist was attached to the abutment.

The finger prosthesis not only looks like normal digit - good color match & near-normal shape, but also carry some conducted proprioception which increases the precision in fine-motor activities. And it increases contact surface on grip and grip strength.

In conclusion, reconstruction of the amputated digit with osseointegrated prosthesis becomes an attractive alternative in less functional ulnar side 3 digits of properly selected patients who want better esthetic results.
